Taking Place of One SU, HTC Introduces the 603e for China

In the midst of smartphone releases that range from budget class to the high-end that adorns the market graciously, not many of them fully come to see the light of day.  Coming into a new year in technology, we’re bombarded with a mix of innovations that astonishes many, and interesting ideas that may sound nice, but ultimately leaves some consumers scratching their heads.  Among that, there are also many rumors pointing out the next big thing, or other clichés that makes us wonder what could be behind those closed doors.

However, there is one thing that does look interesting though, which brings us a nice mid-range set of features; it’s none other than HTC’s 603e. Coming straight from the creator of the One series and the Droid DNA, this W-CDMA device weighs a solid 130g, with a 4.3 inch WVGA (480 x 600) LCD display that accents the 128.5 × 66.9mm body, and is 9.8mm thick.  This particular phone is noted to be identical to the One SU of China, of which it may be attributed to.  The details of what is inside this device has been reported from TENAA, who provided the specs as follow:

  • 4.3 inch LCD display with 480 x 600 resolution (WVGA)
  • 1.15 GHz Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon S4 Play
  • 1 GB RAM
  • Android 4.1.x Jelly Bean
  • Option for microSD card
  • 5 mega pixel back camera capable of recording 720p videos
  • 2 mega pixel front camera
  • Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/GPS
  • Accelerometer, Proximity Sensor and Light Sensor support
  • Comes in a choice of Black, White, Green and Yellow colors

HTC has been recently attempting to bring back the shine they once had, as is evident from their release of the Droid DNA back in November of 2012, and the cryptic messages they breadcrumb us with along our merry way.  Particularly, in emerging markets, mid-ranged focus is a good benefit for many people, because not everyone can afford to drive a Porsche around.  If this is what HTC has to offer the middle class, then there may be a chance to gain an advantage in the lower markets as well.  Personally, I believe that HTC should just keep doing what it’s doing and not look back.
