Asus launches the 10-inch Memo Pad Smart tab in Thailand for $365

At this point, we already know most things about Asus’ upcoming 10-inch Jelly Bean tablet, which we’ve been calling as the Memo Pad 10. Press shots and pricing details of the slate have leaked weeks ago, and it has even been reviewed in advance in Bulgaria.

The only thing seems to be missing is the Memo Pad’s official unveiling, or so it was the case. Yesterday, Asus finally introduced the tablet at the Thailand Mobile Expo.

The 10-incher will be formally known as the Asus Memo Pad Smart ME301T. Carrying a price tag of THB 10,900 or the equivalent of $365, it is actually more affordable than what the leaked price suggested.

Here are the full specs of the Memo Pad Smart.

MemoPad 10’s specs:

  • GeForce ULP graphics card

Now let me ask you, doesn’t that spec sheet ring a bell? For me it does. And I know why – because it’s almost identical to the list of features rocked by last year’s Transformer Pad TF300T. And here’s what I don’t understand. If this new tab is an almost perfect replica of the old one, what exactly is its point?

Granted, the MemoPad Smart is considerably lighter than the TF300T (556 vs. 635 grams), but the rear-facing camera is downsized from 8 to 5 MP. And even if the cam wasn’t poorer this time around, I still feel the new tab’s presence wouldn’t be warranted.
