NVIDIA’s rumored “Wayne” Tegra 4 chip, which will reportedly debut at the CES 2013, has just been leaked by the Chinese tech site Chip Hell. According to the leaked slide, as seen above, “Wayne” will offer a low-power 28-nanometer process and a 5th battery saver core which will support the overall 4-PLUS-1 quad-core CPU. The leaked slide also reveals an impressive 72-core GPU that is 20 times the power found in the Tegra 2, and six times to that of the Tegra 3. These are enough to power screens with a 2,560 x 1600 resolution and a 1080p output at 120Hz. There’s also support for 4K, although details were not given, and USB 3.0 and dual-channel DDR3L memory. If the leaked details are accurate, then NVIDIA’s new processor will definitely give rival SoC manufacturers like Qualcomm and Samsung a run for the money. For now, let’s add a pinch of salt into this report until we hear it from the chip maker.
Tegra 4 is an NVIDIA mobile system on a chip (SoC) which has been officially launched on January 6 at CES 2013. Tegra 4 contains four general processor blocks based on the ARM Cortex A15 design. It also features a "companion core" which is designed to handle low-intensity tasks while using as little power as possible. When the companion core is "ON", the four faster cores are turned OFF for maximum power-savings. Tegra 4 also features 72 graphics cores, and assuming that they are comparable to the Tegra 3 graphics cores, it would translate into a 6X graphics performance boost.
